The “Soul of the Tramp” shelter is located on the border of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. It has existed for over 10 years. The founders of the shelter developed and improved the shelter, making repairs, and providing the animals with everything needed at their own expense.
⠀
Before the full-scale Russian invasion started, more than 100 animals lived in the shelter. Dogs, cats, exotic rescued animals, and even frogs that had been bred to be released into their natural habitat have found shelter inside the “Soul of the Tramp.”
Unfortunately, due to overwhelming artillery shelling, the shelter was destroyed, the car was damaged, and Olga, the founder of the shelter, was injured while rescuing animals.
⠀
Together with the animals in tow, Olga evacuated the shelter and fled to the neighboring region, where they lived in an abandoned house without electricity, water, gas, and heating until nearly freezing. After the Russians left Kherson in November, “Soul of the Tramp” staff returned to the walls of their shelter and are in the process of rebuilding what had been destroyed. The war in Ukraine has increased the number of injured and abandoned animals significantly, and all of those affected are in need of support.
