Positive results from an Animal-assisted therapy (AAT), when people interact with animals, is a proven fact. Such therapy differs depending on the type of animal, which is a key element in the treatment of patients. There are canine-assisted therapy, therapy cat, hippotherapy, etc.
The therapy dog, or canine-assisted therapy, helps in working with emotionally unstable children, autistic patients, patients suffering from depression, post-traumatic disorders, disabled people undergoing rehabilitation, elderly people suffering from dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. Also, a therapy dog is very helpful for people who have been physically abused or who have been in a natural disaster.
Hippotherapy, which is communication with horses, is used in many countries to help people with autism, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and other serious diseases.
A therapy cat is helpful for people with oncology, chronic fatigue syndrome, headaches, depression, neuroses, and insomnia. These animals help reduce stress and help the human cardiovascular system.
The kitten who became a real cat therapist for Ukrainian emergency services was found in the Ukrainian city of Izyum, Kherson region. The cat was given the nickname 'Izyum,' in honor of the city liberated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Russian military. He was fed, watered, and bathed in people's attention, he was not neglected for a moment. The cat's role is hard to overestimate during 10 days of emergency services work. Izyum was a kind of psychologist for the Ukrainian rescuers because after seeing the horror, they could always go up to the cat and pet it, forgetting about everything the Russian military had done. After an accomplished mission in the city, one of the Ukrainian rescuers decided to take the furry one with him to Kyiv because he got used to the cat's purring during these 10 days.
Humans are privileged to engage in close relationships with animals, and it is our responsibility to provide assistance to those in need.
