Olga Wilson is a Ukrainian artist who provides her support and helps Ukraine through art. She draws “War notes.” This is a series of paintings about people, and their beloved animals, who have left our world because of the war in Ukraine:
“All illustrations in the series "War notes" are my expressions of feelings, appeared during the Russian-Ukrainian war. I have never considered making a series of artworks. I started drawing pictures, based on shocking actions against Ukrainians, against humanity. When my artworks gained some popularity on social media - relatives of those, who were killed in the war, began to ask me to draw portraits of their loved and lost ones.” – Olga Wilson, Ukrainian artist.
One such story, “War notes,” tells us about a zoo volunteer in Sumy, Ukraine, who spends his free time helping homeless animals. He has a mini-shelter at home – almost 60 cats, all rescued from the street, some he took away during the war because he could not leave abandoned animals alone. He loves and cares for everyone, but he had two special cats that he loved the most. On the night of May 3rd, one of them passed away, his name was Dimka, and the man lost a part of his soul with him. He blames himself for not being able to pay enough attention to Dimka and for not being with him in his last minutes because he was helping other animals that were made homeless by the war.
Our only goal is to save our animals' lives and do everything we can to reunite these loved ones with their families.
